Rainbow Stew

Rainbow Stew:

Materials:
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup corn starch
4 cups water
Food coloring

Directions:
1. Mix all the ingredients together in a saucepan
2. Stir constantly and heat until the mixture begins to thicken
3. Remove from heat to cool
4. Divide the mixture into three bowls
5. Add a different color of food coloring into each bowl (1 - red, 1 - blue, 1 - yellow)
6. Put approximately 3 tbsp of each color into a Ziploc bag. Seal the bag and tape the top closes
7. Knead the baggie to mix colors just enough to look like a rainbow
8. Lay the bag down on a hard surface and gently press to flatten
9. You can hang it in your window when finished


Ooblick

Ooblick:

Materials:
1 cup corn starch
1/2 cup water

Directions:
1. Put corn starch in a bowl and add water. Mix together well
2. If needed add 1-2 TBL more of water to reach desired consistency


Noodle Center at Home

Noodle Center at Home:

Materials:
Dry noodles: spaghetti, bowtie, corkscrew, loops, etc.
String
Paper
Pasta dye (see recipe below)

Ingredients for Pasta Dye:
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
1 tbsp food coloring
2 cups pasta
1 quart Ziploc freezer bag

Directions:
1. Pour alcohol and food coloring in bag. Mix together
2. Add pasta. Mix together
3. Let the mixture sit for 1 hour, then turn over and let it sit for 30 minutes
4. Pour out onto newspaper to dry
5. If the color is not dark enough, repeat process

Kool-Aid Play Dough

Kool-Aid Play Dough:

Materials:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 packages unsweetened Kool-Aid powdered drink mix
2 cups boiling water
3 tbsp oil

Directions:
1. Mix flour, salt, Kool-Aid and oil until blended
2. Add boiling water, mix with a spoon until cool enough to knead
3. Continue kneading until the color is blending
4. Store in airtight bag or container in the refrigerator




Glurch

Glurch:

Materials: 
1 1/2 cups water
2 cups Elmers glue
1/3 cup warm water
1 level tsp. Borax

Directions:
1. Mix together in a large bowl: 1 1/2 cups water and 2 cups Elmer's glue
2. Then in another bowl, dissolve 1/3 cup warm water and 1 level tsp. Borax
3. Then add the Borax mixture slowly to the glue mixture. Feel the coagulation takes place
4. Work with hands to get silly putty. You will have an extra liquid leftover. If you want to make more silly putty just add another level tsp. of Borax to another 1/3 cup of water, dissolve and add the leftover glue mixture and proceed as before 


Play Dough

Materials:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 tsp. Cream of Tartar
2 cups water
2 Tbsp. oil
Food coloring (optional)
Spice for Scent (optional)

Directions:
1. Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a heavy aluminum pan
2. Add water, oil, color, and spice
3. Heat on stove 3 minutes or until mixture pulls away from the pan
4. Remove from heat and knead immediately
5. Store in an airtight container
6. Clay keeps for several months

Colored Salt

Colored Salt 

Materials:
Salt
Food coloring
Ziploc bag

Directions:
1. Pour a cup of salt into a Ziplock bag and add several drops of food coloring.
2. Close the bag tightly, making sure that most of the air is out. (You can add more food coloring to get more vibrant colors of salt)
3. Use your fingers (on the outside of the bag) to mix the color into the salt. Pour the salt in a thin layer on a newspaper or tray and let it dry
4. Repeat this for each color, giving each its own piece of newspaper (you can use half of the page) or tray. When all colors are dry, pour the salt back into the Ziploc bags.

Pasta
Alcohol
Food coloring
Ziploc bag

Directions: 
Put pasta in a Ziploc bag with alcohol and food coloring. Mix. Let it dry on top of a towel.

Chocolate Edible Play Dough

Chocolate Edible Play Dough

Ingredients:
**make double per class**
3 cups powdered sugar
6 tablespoons baking cocoa
3/4 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup butter (room temperature) - do not use substitutes
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
1. Mix and knead by hand until desired consistency (something like a Tootsie Roll)
2. One can shape all kinds of things with this dough and then eat it also!

Bubbles

Materials:
1/2 cup of dishwashing liquid (Dawn or Joy)
2 cups of water
3 tsp of sugar

Directions:
Cyndi suggests adding a dap of food coloring for colorful bubbles. Mix the solution and place it in a shallow pan (or refill your old bubble containers).
